This project aimed to communicate to busy office workers the benefits of a solar panel installation ten storeys up on the roof of the new office block at One Bishops Square, Spitalfields in London. Project partners were Foster + Partners, Sir Robert McAlpine and Hammerson.

A relatively low resolution custom display (for its large size) made up of individual orange LEDs was designed and manafactured to fit into the profile of the existing signage totems. It was linked to the solar panels on the roof enabling it to display information and animations based on live power readings from the panels.

By default the dispaly showed a shower of photons, increasing and decreasing in intensity in real time depending on the power of the sun. This was interspersed with animations translating the amounts of power generated into human scale (e.g. cups of tea, phone calls, TV show episodes). Information about solar energy and the installation was also shown.
